An estimated $7.5 million construction permit has been issued for a new two-story "clubhouse" reserved for residents of the five-tower Prairie Shores apartment complex in Bronzeville.
Located between the residential high-rises at 2901 and 2951 S. Martin Luther King Drive, the 17,500-square-foot addition will provide renters in the various buildings a place to come together. The Gensler-designed structure will features amenities including a fitness center, a coffee bar, co-working spaces, leasing offices, and a landscaped rooftop terrace.

The clubhouse is part of a larger modernization project from Farpoint Development and Golub & Company, which in 2019 acquired the 20-acre midcentury Prairie Shores development for $180 million, according to Crain's. The joint venture also recently completed interior renovations on more than 150 of the complex's 1,675 apartments.
"People who live at Prairie Shores work hard and are proud of their community, and they deserve a modern space that invites them to relax and engage with their neighbors," said Golub's Michael Newman in a prior news release regarding the clubhouse addition. "We’re excited to bring back a stronger sense of neighborhood to the families of Prairie Shores."
Farpoint, meanwhile, is leading the effort to revitalize the vacant former Michael Reese Hospital site just east of Prarie Shores. Last week, the Chicago Community Development Commission signed off on the massive $3.8 billion multi-phase undertaking, which will feature 8 million square feet of mixed-use development and more than 6,700 mixed-income residential units.
