A zoning application has been filed for a residential conversion of existing office space at 1500 N. Halsted. Planned by Newcastle Investors, the office space is located on the upper floors of a four-story commercial building at the northwest corner of N. Halsted St and W. Blackhawk St.
Designed by SPACE Architects + Planners, the residential development would see the conversion of the upper three floors of the commercial building into 31 new apartments. The ground floor retail space will remain.
Residents would have access to the 15 surface parking spaces on the north side of the building as well as 31 bike parking spaces split between 15 exterior spaces in the parking lot and 17 spaces in the basement.
To allow for the redevelopment, the developer is seeking to rezone the property from C3-5 to B3-5. Approvals will be needed from the Committee on Zoning and City Council.
