The Chicago City Council has approved a townhome development at 6659 N. Kedzie. Planned by PGBS MGR LLC, the site was previously owned and operated by Peoples Gas. The property is located on the block bounded by W. Pratt Blvd on the north, N. Whipple St on the east, W. Wallen Ave on the south, and N. Kedzie Ave on the west.
The property is an irregularly shaped lot and currently has a three-story brick commercial building, two-story brick commercial building, and single-story metal garage that were vacated in approximately 2018. The structures will be demolished to make way for the new development.
Designed by Kennedy Mann, the project would redevelop the site with 47 three-story townhouses and 79 car parking spaces. Measuring up to 38 feet in height, each townhome will have an attached garage, a private yard, and a private terrace or balcony. There will also be a common open space provided.
With City Council approval secured, the site will be rezoned from M1-1 to RM-5.5 to allow for the residential development. The developer can now move forward with permitting and construction.
