A daycare facility is being proposed at 2820 N. Elston. Located just off the intersection of W. Diversey Ave, N. Elston Ave, and N Western Ave, the property is currently occupied by a one-story masonry building.
Planned by Children’s Land Learning Center, the three-story building will be a daycare facility with an outdoor play area on the site.
Back in 2022, a mixed-use development was approved for the site. Planned by Reinventive Real Estate and designed by Jonathan Splitt Architects, the development would’ve been a five-story building with retail space and 40 residential units.
The mixed-use development underwent a Type 1 Zoning Map Amendment rezoning the property from C1-2 to C1-3. As part of this new proposal, the Type 1 zoning change would be overridden, and the daycare would conform to the standards and requirements of the C1-2 designation.
Located in the 35th Ward, Alderman Rosa, the Avondale Neighborhood Association, Logan Square Preservation, and Palenque LSNA will be hosting a virtual community meeting to gather community feedback on the zoning change request. The meeting will be held February 6th at 6pm virtually via Zoom. Neighbors can register to attend via this link.
