The developer behind the proposed Metropolis Pointe development is reportedly under contract to acquire the project’s site at 2545 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr in Bronzeville. Planned by JC Griffin of Griffin Venture Group, the project would occupy a 6.6 acre site at the northeast corner of the intersection of E. 26th St and S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Designed by Wight & Company and Studio Barnes, renderings show a glassy 50-story tower set to rise 560 feet tall on the northern side of the site broken down into three vertical sections with rounded corners and an observation deck at the top. A shorter midrise with a complimentary design stands at the southeast corner of the site with a podium stretching across the site.

Anticipated to cost approximately $900 million, the development will include more than 600 residential units in the main tower with a mix of workforce, market-rate and luxury condominium housing. The rest of the project will include an “AI Preparedness Institute,” an education and workforce training center focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, as well as retail space and wellness-focused community amenities.

According to a report from Crain’s, the sale price for the site is expected to be close to about $28.8 million and may be completed in the coming weeks. The developer will likely need to go through the city’s zoning process to allow for the scope of the project.
