The Illinois Basketball Academy is planning a new basketball facility located at 1800 W. Lake. Situated in the Near West Side near the United Center, the project will occupy the property stretching from N. Wood St to N. Wolcott Ave along the north side of W. Lake St. A one-story industrial building at the corner of W. Lake St and N. Wood St would be demolished to make way for the project.
Set to stand two stories tall, the facility will feature 11 basketball courts inside the building. Visitors would enter through a double-height, glass-enclosed lobby at the corner of W. Lake St and N. Wood St. The two-story portion of the building along N. Wood St would include a restaurant with outdoor dining, a classroom, concessions, and restrooms on the ground floor. The second floor would include a multipurpose space, an outdoor terrace, and office space.
While initial details have emerged for the project, it is currently unclear whether the project will need any zoning entitlements for the development to move forward. Permits have not been filed for construction and a timeline is currently unknown.
