Permits issued for renovation of Kay Shoes retail building

A permit has been issued for the adaptive reuse of the former Kay Shoes retail building at 2839 N. Milwaukee. Located at the southeast corner of N. Milwaukee Ave and N. Dawson Ave, the project is being led by Miller Chicago Real Estate.

Designed by Ridgeland Associates, the Kay Shoes retail building will be transformed into a mixed-use building with apartments and ground floor commercial space. With a total of six apartments, the rental units will include one studio, three one-beds, and two two-beds. 

The ground floor commercial space will be a 4,000 square foot salon suites concept which will be the second location of Runway Studios Chicago.  Independent renters of those suites will include cosmetologists, hair stylists, hair colorists, manicurists, eyelash and eyebrow artists, estheticians, barbers, and other personal beauty professionals. Suites will start at $900/month and will vary by size.

With the renovation permit issued, general contractor Alpine Builders and Remodeling Corp can get started on the construction.
