The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a Lakefront Protection Ordinance application for a retail development at 67 E. Oak in Streeterville. Planned by 67 E Oak Street LLC, the project site is a midblock property along E. Oak St between N. Michigan Ave and N. Rush St. An existing five-story multi-tenant retail building on the site will be demolished.

Designed by Myefski Architects, the proposed retail project will be a two-story building designed for a single retail tenant with 5,960 square feet of space. The building is designed with a large open floor plan for the planned retail buildout with a grand stair in the center of the space leading up to the second floor. An elevator and restrooms will be located at the back of the building with a trash room at the back of the building by the alley.

Standing 36 feet tall, the two-story structure will be built lot line to lot line with the front facade fully clad in a glass curtain wall system featuring bird-safe glazing. The remaining facades will all be opaque as they sit on the property’s lot lines.

With the Lakefront Protection Ordinance application approved, the $8.1 million development can proceed with permitting and construction. Demolition of the existing structure is planned for January 2026 with new construction starting in March 2026. Construction of the building itself would wrap up in September 2027 upon which the developer would turn the building over to the retail tenant for their buildout. A retail tenant has been signed but is remaining confidential until they make a formal announcement.
