Renderings have emerged for a residential development currently underway at 1723 S. Michigan. Planned by Chicago-based CMK Companies, the midblock parcel is located between E. 16th St and E 18th St and was previously home to a one-story structure and surface parking.
Designed by Gensler, the new renderings show a glassy facade wrapping the L-shaped massing of the residential building with balconies protruding from the north and south facades. The three-story podium features a highly transparent ground floor with two levels of screened parking above.
The 13-story building will have 149 apartment units on the upper floors with 98 parking spaces in the podium along with the residential lobby and retail on the ground floor.
With all of the different building permits issued, general contractor Brandts Build LLC can work on the building through completion. A specific timeline for construction and opening for residents is currently unknown.
