A tower crane permit has been issued for the planned residential development at 1630 S. Wabash. Planned by CMK Companies, the vacant site is located across from Fred Anderson Park and backs up to the CTA L tracks.

Designed by Pappageorge Haymes Partners, the new development will be a 12-story residential tower with 149 residential units. The first two floors will have 105 parking spaces with the residential lobby and associated uses expected on the ground floor.

Renderings that were recently released show the building’s design featuring a stone-clad ground floor and residential entry with a glass window wall system cladding the tower. A cutout on the top floor faces north, likely providing an outdoor terrace amenity for residents.

With Brandts Build LLC serving as the general contractor, the project has already received its foundation permit and full building permit. The issuance of the tower crane permit will allow for construction to commence in earnest and go vertical. A timeline for construction and completion is currently unclear.
