Related Midwest has announced that it has secured global law firm Sidley as the anchor tenant for 725 Randolph, its proposed Class AA office tower at 725 W. Randolph in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. Originally envisioned as a two-tower residential and hotel scheme, Related Midwest pivoted to an all-office tower plan for the site back in 2023.
Sidley is a global law firm with its Chicago office having more than 1,500 attorneys and business professionals serving nearly 3,000 clients on over 10,000 matters each year across a broad range of transactional, litigation, regulatory, restructuring, and investigations matters.
“Chicago has been central to Sidley’s history for more than 160 years and our move to 725 Randolph reflects our continuing commitment to Chicago,” said Brian Fahrney, Chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “We look forward to serving clients from our new home in one of the nation’s fastest-growing commercial districts, one that is vital to the future of the Chicago business community. The quality of our work, the strength of our teams and the unique culture that defines Sidley’s Chicago office will remain central to our firm as we begin this next chapter in our founding city.”
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, 725 Randolph will be a 45-story, 1-million-square-foot high-rise that will create a new gateway to Fulton Market. The tower will offer column-free floorplates and unobstructed views of the cityscape, a range of premier amenities, and a number of nearby dining options.
The building’s design creates a diversity of floor plate sizes by stepping back the south end of the floors as the tower rises. Punctuating the longer facades, three triple-height loggias have been carved into the eastern and western elevations to provide more outdoor space for office tenants. Wrapping the building’s volume, the facade has been designed with three-floor sections that are marked by gridded metal frame elements.
The tower still requires City Council approval as it seeks to amend the site’s existing Planned Development. Approvals are needed from the Chicago Plan Commission, Committee on Zoning, and City Council. Related Midwest is also reportedly nearing a deal to secure financing for the tower as they seek to break ground next year and finish construction for Sidley to move into the new space in late 2030.
