In Lakeview, a new five-story health and social services project is taking shape at 1023 W. Irving Park Road. Developed by LGBTQ nonprofit healthcare organization Howard Brown Health, the under-construction facility will eventually serve as a new, larger permanent home from the Broadway Youth Center

The existing center is located a quarter-mile east at 4009 N. Broadway and caters primarily to members of the LGBTQ community between the ages of 12 and 24. The new 20,000-square-foot facility will feature a medical clinic and house vocational, education, and behavioral health services.

General contractor Bulley & Andrews broke ground on the new Broadway Youth Center last year after receiving a building permit in August. The project replaces an unfinished four-story, four-unit apartment project from developer Panoptic Group. Howard Brown paid $3.2 million for the structure in 2017 but tore it down two years later due to structural defects and sued Panoptic Group for $1.9 million, according to Crain's

Chicago-based Wheeler Kearns Architects designed the new building with a contemporary masonry facade and rectangular punched window openings. Construction on the upcoming health and social services facility at 1023 W. Irving Park Road is expected to wrap up later this summer.
